Winterpalais Wonders

In der ehemaligen städtischen Winterresidenz des Prinz Eugen von Savoyen, einem Erbe der hochbarocken Epoche, trifft das Auge auf viel Prunk. Eine einzigartige Symbiose gehen diese prachtvollen Räumlichkeiten nun mit den Kunstwerken einer überaus besonderen Ausstellung ein. Diese trägt den doppelsinnigen Namen Baroque Baroque. Urheber derselben ist der dänisch-isländische Künstler Olafur Elisson. Seine Werke fangen den kontemporären Zeitgeist ein und fordern das Wahrnehmungsverständnis des Besuchers heraus; er wird durch Bewegungen, Schatten, Projektionen, Spiegelungen und kaleidoskopische Umkehrungen aufgefordert, seiner passiven Rolle zu entsteigen, um sich gedanklich mit Realität und Illusion auseinanderzusetzen. Das Aufeinandertreffen und die Synergie dieser äußerst unterschiedlichen Ären ist faszinierend. Wir sind begeistert und schließen mit einem Wort ab: Chapeau!

Die Ausstellung ist noch bis 6. März des neuen Jahres im Winterpalais des Belvedere in der Himmelpfortengasse 8 zu sehen.


In the former city winter residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy, a legacy of the high baroque era, the observer will come upon a lot of splendour. Presently these pompous rooms are entering into a singular symbiosis with the artworks of the exceedingly unusual exhibition. It is carrying the equivocal name Baroque Baroque. Its creator is the Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson. His works capture the contemporary Zeitgeist and challenge the visitor's understanding of perception; through movements, shadows, projections, reflections and kaleidoscopic inversions he is requested to come out of his passive role and to face up intellectually to reality and illusion. The encounter and the synergy of these profoundly different ages is fascinating. We are thrilled and conclude with one word: Chapeau!

The exhibition will be in the Winterpalais of the Belvedere in the Himmelpfortengasse 8 until march the 6th of the new year.
